Castel San Giorgio Model
Historic Structure Reproduction in Mantova
Valle dei Fiori commissioned a scale architectural reproduction of the Castle of San Giorgio, part of the Ducal Palace complex in Mantova. The project required careful analysis of historical proportions and architectural details to ensure historical accuracy.
The model was printed in sections using high-resolution PLA for the main structures, with detailed landscape features and selective painting for material differentiation. Post-processing included careful assembly to reproduce decorative elements, windows, turrets, and other structural details with millimeter precision.
The challenge was ensuring scale accuracy while reproducing fine architectural details such as cornices and decorations, and maintaining structural integrity on thin elements like towers and battlements. The final model serves both as an educational tool and exhibition piece, demonstrating how 3D printing can preserve and communicate cultural heritage.
